Algarve and Albufeira.

The Algarve is known for its special coast, with impressive cliffs and beautiful wide beaches. But this region also has a lot of natural beauty to offer, especially in spring, when the entire Algarve is beautifully in bloom. The first orchids, oleanders, camellias and other flowers bloom in March.

Albufeira is one of the most visited seaside resorts in the Algarve. This lively and quirky town is best known for its beautiful beaches and many bars and discos.

But the town with the white houses is definitely worth a visit. You can visit this city, founded by the Arabs, with its narrow, winding streets both during the day and in the evening, because there is always something to do here. All roads lead to Praia do Túnel beach, also called Praia do Peneco, a vast sandy beach enclosed by the city that overlooks the sea like an amphitheater. From the boulevard next to the long sandy beach you can view the city from a different perspective. This is bordered to the west by the Gruta do Xorino, a refuge for the Moors during the Christian reconquest in the 13th century.

Brightly colored fishing boats rest on the sand after a hard day's work. In the old sailor's neighborhoods you will find a bar or restaurant on every street corner. Here you can eat delicious seafood or fresh fish, simply grilled or prepared in the cataplana (a sealable copper pan), the regional specialty. Another popular dish is fried chicken with or without spicy piri-piri, which became famous in Guia, a village seven km from Albufeira.

There are also sweets with almonds, figs and locust bean, medronho brandy or almond liqueur. These delicacies come from villages inland. If you turn your back on the blue sea for a moment, you will see the green fields with orange trees, almond trees and fig trees. You can also visit remains of the past, such as the Castelo de Paderne with walls of stock horse, typical of Arab constructions. Closer to the coast is the chapel Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Orada. Every year on August 14, festivities take place, including a grand boat procession. Not far from here is the Marina de Albufeira. This modern marina has an excellent infrastructure for all those who come by sea.

But it is the beaches that have given Albufeira international fame. Although different, they are all equally attractive. The varied offer starts in the west with Praia dos Salgados, a sandy beach with dunes of white sand. In addition, there are sheltered beaches surrounded by sculpted cliffs, such as Galé, Castelo, São Rafael or Arrifes.

In Albufeira itself you will also find beaches within walking distance of the center: Pescadores, Túnel, Alemães and Inatel. More to the east there are more beaches such as Oura, Santa Eulália, Maria Luísa and Olhos de Água,

    with freshwater springs in the middle of the beach. They compete with each other in terms of beauty and entertainment options. Praia da Falésia, at the extreme border of the municipality, is an endless sandy beach with a long line of cliffs in red, copper and brownish tones as a backdrop. Here the beach is at its most beautiful at nightfall.
